What your support makes possible ?
Every woman deserves access to the care and services they need to live healthier lives. To make that happen, health care providers and budget-holders need to be more aware of the experiences of women and the evidence-base to respond to their needs. This work will close the current gaps in evidence, care and policy related to menopause.
A clear evidence-base, informed by women's experiences, can shape the global response to menopause.
The gap in medical training gets filled. Menopause becomes part of what every health care provider learns, not an afterthought.
Our guidelines help countries, including ministries of health, healthcare professionals, and patient organizations, develop policies and put into practice the approaches that best fit their local context.

WHO's Response
Why this work matters now
The gap is the same everywhere — only the setting changes.
Women in the world are all different and all facing the same challenge. Every woman deserves access to the services that will help them sleep, work, and manage their lives. To help clinicians, doctors, and health workers support them, we need guidelines. HRP and WHO will build that

Most research was done on women in Europe and North America
A woman in Nairobi, Dhaka, or Mexico City going through this has almost no clinical research that reflects her experience. The science was built elsewhere, for someone else. She is navigating one of the most significant transitions of her life with guidance that was never designed with her in mind.
Symptoms arrive at the height of a career
She is managing her team, her children, and her aging parents — and she has not slept properly in eight months. She does not raise it at work. She does not want to be seen differently. She carries it alone, because no one ever told her there might be something that could help.
Sweden has guidelines. Most countries do not.
In Sweden, a woman can walk into a clinic and her doctor has national guidelines to follow. In most of the world, that framework does not exist. A doctor in Peru, the Philippines, or Switzerland who wants to help her has no globally validated standard to turn to. This work builds that standard.

Your donation supports WHO and the Human Reproduction Programme (HRP) in establishing the first ever global guidelines on menopause. This includes generating and reviewing the evidence, providing recommendations, setting the norms, supporting countries to adopt and implement the guidelines, training health workers, and funding education and awareness efforts to reduce stigma — so that every woman knows what care she is entitled to.

HRP is the world's leading programme on sexual and reproductive health research. Co-sponsored by the United Nations and the World Bank, and hosted by WHO, it generates the scientific evidences leading to the creation of norms, guidelines and interventions that shapes health policies globally.
