Tuberculosis
Tuberculosis (TB) remains one of the deadliest infectious diseases in the world, killing more than one million people every year.
There are now great opportunities to advance the prevention and treatment of TB, join us in our mission to ensure more people are diagnosed earlier and treated sooner.

People Globally carry TB bacteria.
TB related illnesses each year.
Deaths annually.
What is our goal?
To close the funding gap in research and development, and save 2M lives.
Early diagnosis is the key to stopping the spread of TB, and new drugs are the key to improving treatment.
29 drugs are in clinical trials, and there are new vaccines in development as well as a new generation of diagnostic equipment, but funding for TB has collapsed.
We’re supporting the WHO to raise funds to make TB testing simpler, cheaper, and closer to patients
Why is there a funding urgency?
Funding for TB has collapsed, threatening to derail the surveillance of the spread of TB. Modelling studies have already warned that long-term cuts to international donor funding could result in between one and 2 million additional deaths and 10 million people falling ill with TB between 2025 and 2035.
The only current vaccine (BCG) on the market is 100 years old, and TB is no longer confined to low-income countries.
Additional deaths annually in the next 10 years if the funding gap isn't closed.
Improvement in treatment success due to improvements in treatment and earlier diagnosis.
Return on investment, for every $1 spent, in health and economic returns.
How can you help?
The WHO Foundation provides a way for donors to support the WHO TB programme in a focused and effective way.
It connects donor priorities with specific WHO initiatives and helps ensure that funding supports high-impact work to strengthen TB detection, treatment, and prevention worldwide.
